Specialist Restoration Work
The Directors of Acorn Restorations Ltd have many previous years of
experience in the foundry industry. Over the past ten years they have
used this experience in designing, manufacturing and restoring architectural
metalwork for many high quality high profile projects.
Restoration projects include restoration of lighting columns to
Birdcage Walk, Westminster, manufacture of a replica 1890 fountain
and circa 1900 lighting columns for The Mall, Westminster.
Often, restoration projects involve the replacement of broken or
missing castings. This will involve the specialist design and manufacture
of dedicated pattern equipment. This we are pleased to carry out.
We hold many patterns for the production of castings and are always
expanding our stock through using dedicated pattern makers. Please

on your behalf.
Modern technology has introduced new manufacturing techniques that
we are able to use in restoration projects. These include zinc plasma
spray techniques and the use of resin materials. The former technique
allows restored ironwork (other than cast iron) to be coated with
a layer of zinc prior to painting. For items such as wrought iron
railings and gates, this provides a corrosion resistant layer that
is fused to the base metal. The use of resin materials is ideal
for filling blow holes and porosity as well as for low cost pattern
making techniques.
